For those of you who are not familiar with Tanabata, here is what Wikipedia has to say :
Tanabata (七夕 tanabata?, meaning “Evening of the seventh”) is a Japanese star festival, derived from the Chinese star festival, Qi Xi (七夕 “The Night of Sevens“).
It celebrates the meeting of Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair). The Milky Way, a river made from stars that crosses the sky, separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar. Since the stars come out at night, the celebration is held at night.
During this festival, people write their wishes on to small strips of paper called tanzaku (短冊) and hang them on bamboo trees.
This year, the Tanabata celebration would be a wee bit special as the Tanabata Shrine in Ogori, Fukuoka is introducing an online service that allows you to write your wishes online and then after you have submitted your wish, the folks there would write it up on a tanzaku strip for you and it will be placed in the shrine itself. And if you include your email address, they will even send you a picture of it. ^^,
Submission is open until July 31 and the tanzaku will be placed in the shrine on 7 August.
This post is hijacked from Nyoron.
For those who don't read Japanese, I wrote a small guide on my site. For those who do, follow the links below. There's two ways to write your wish. 1. Type your wish and have the people in Ogori write it for you. or 2. Write the wish yourself and have it printed out.
Have fun wishing! ^^, Cheers
